Introducing Calvin Stovell, our People of Colour Development Manager

Calvin Stovell (he/him) joined MindOut in February 2022 as our LGBTQ People of Colour Development Manager. Calvin is leading on the organisation’s anti-racism work and is developing interventions and support to specifically help LGBTQ people of colour with their mental health.

Prior to joining MindOut, Calvin worked as an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) providing support to men, non-binary and trans people experiencing sexual violence through the criminal justice system. As a qualified Adult and Young Persons’ ISVA, Calvin understands the dynamics of power and control, abuse, consent, and supporting vulnerable people in their journey to justice.

Working with sexual violence Calvin has provided impartial advice and support as well as navigating very sensitive conversations. As a Sexual Health Advisor, Calvin offered support around safe sex and sexually transmitted infections. This included reaching marginalised and hard to reach groups like gay men, sex workers and people of colour.

Calvin takes an intersectional approach to the support of service users, trying to increase equity and fairness by challenging and dismantling systems of oppression and will be an asset to MindOut’s anti-racism mission.

I’m so excited to be working with MindOut and I’m looking forward to the range of projects I will be working on. It’s the perfect opportunity to put my skills around intersectionality, anti-oppressive practice, anti-racism, counselling, and group facilitation to good use, for a great cause.”
