Meet MindOut’s new Ambassador

We are honoured and thrilled to introduce MindOut’s first community ambassador Aaron Lawrence AKA Spice. Some of you may recognise Aaron from his awesome fundraising epic My Costume Drama in which he donned fancy dress every day for a year in 2015 and raised  an awesome £16K for MindOut!

“Mental health is an issue that is close to my heart. Since doing My Costume Drama and working with MindOut, I have been amazed at how many other people feel the same.” – Aaron Lawrence

Aaron is multi-talented- as well as a champion of LGBTQ mental health, he is a chef, a student of Astrophysics,  and well known on the local scene as drag queen Spice.

His role as ambassador

As our ambassador Aaron promotes MindOut’s services and contributes to our mission to reduce stigma and increase wellbeing for the LGBTQ communities. He supports our events such as MindOut for the Laughs 2017 where he will compere for us this year, and he is mobilising his considerable influence to fund raise within the LGBTQ community – especially amongst the clientele of the wonderful Bedford Tavern.

“Mental Heath touches everyone in some way, either directly or through friends or family, yet it isn’t a subject that people find easy to talk about. MindOut do a great job at being visible, breaking down stigma, and opening dialogue so people feel that it’s ok to ask for help.

The LGBTQ+ community is a wonderful place to be and so it’s often easy to forget that it can also feel lonely and isolating for those with mental health issues.

That is why MindOut is so amazing – the services they offer are invaluable, but the real benefits for so many people come from the community and support network they provide. I couldn’t be more proud to be MindOut’s first Community Ambassador and hope that I can play a small role in helping them achieve big things!”  – Aaron Lawrence
