MindOut’s Good Practice Guide goes to Parliament

caroline dineage mp meeting helen jones Helen Jones, CEO of MindOut, met Caroline Dinenage MP Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Women, Equalities and Early Years at the Department for Education at the House of Commons launch of MindOut’s LGBTQ Mental Health Good Practice guide on 1st March 2017.  MPs from around the UK came to find out about LGBTQ mental health and pick up copies of the Guide.  MindOut and Mind asked MPs to take the Guide back to their local mental health services, to ask them to take up the offer of Affirmative Practice training and to put the following 4 actions in place:

  • A welcoming environment
  • Inclusive language
  • Staff training and supervision
  • Engaging with LGBTQ+ people.

All too often, LGBTQ people are reluctant to seek support from mental health services when they need it for fear of heterosexist, cisgenderist and uninformed treatment. MindOut offers training which can help all kinds of organisations make their services more inclusive and confident about engaging with LGBTQ people.
