New mental health project for older LGBTQ people

We are delighted to announce a new grant from the Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities programme.  The total awarded is £312.086 over 5 years from April 2018 – March 2023.

We are so pleased to receive this grant, we are looking forward to extending the work we do with people aged over 50, particularly people aged over 70, where we know there is much need for mental health support.  The grant will enable us to develop more peer support and advocacy.  We are very concerned about the stigma and ageism towards older LGBTQ people and we have consulted widely on a number of exciting ways to address this.

Helen Jones, MindOut CEO

The grant will fund salaries for advocacy and peer support workers and volunteer expenses.  MindOut Age Matters will offer peer support, intergenerational befriending and peer mentoring, develop LGBTQ affirmative practice in residential care and supported housing and seek to consult with a wide range of older LGBTQ people about their mental health needs.

Please do contact us at [email protected] or phone 01273 234839 if you would like to get involved.

Many thanks to everyone who plays the National Lottery, without your donations none of these grants would exist.
