Free workshop opportunity!
MindOut is teaming up with legendary local artist and performer Boogaloo Stu and fellow artist Ladypat for their Queer Hearts Award workshops.
As part of their Queer Hearts art exhibition which runs at the Jubilee Library from 16th January – 5th February, Stu and Pat will also be running two amazing art workshops on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th January in the library, surrounded by their gorgeous, colourful artworks.
In the workshop, you are invited to make a collage artwork dedicated to someone special. You’ll be welcomed by Stu and Pat at the library, where the space will be set up with tables and chairs, along with all the arts and crafts materials you’ll need to create your artwork. Stu and Pat will initially ask you to think about a queer person or queer ally who has made a positive impact on your life in some way. This could be a friend, a family member, a teacher, a pop star, an actor, a social media influencer; anyone who has made an emotional connection that has benefitted you. Once you’ve decided who your artwork is for, you’ll have a few hours to create your work of art, including a message underneath the artwork about who it is dedicated to. In their own work, both Stu and Pat make collages using a mixture of hand-drawn and digital techniques; in the workshop you’ll learn about these methods and can make use of some of them to create your artwork. There will be plenty of art materials to hand, with your hosts on hand to help. It will be a relaxed, fun and creative experience, and absolutely no creative or art skills are required to participate!
Your artwork will be displayed after the workshop, and photographed and archived on the Queer Hearts website. When the Queer Hearts exhibition closes on 5th February, you can collect your artwork (to keep, or to pass on to the person it was made for).
The workshop is free to participate, but you do need to book your place. There are two sessions each day; spaces on both days are limited, so contact MindOut asap to book:
